Sidecar/Trike Class (S/TEP)

“Get your three wheeled motorcycle endorsement waiver in this class”

Who Should Take This Class?

Evergreen Safety Council and Spokane MotorSchool believe that 3-wheeled motorcycles are significantly different in handling dynamics and characteristics from 2-wheeled motorcycles. For this reason separate training is required for both the novice and experienced sidecar or trike rider. For those riders who choose to enjoy the sport of motorcycling on three wheels it is our goal to have this program available in all areas where motorcycle training is currently offered. We work with industry representatives, enthusiasts, instructors, state motorcycle safety program coordinators, insurance companies, and the general public to achieve this goal.

Class Description:

Practiced in a safe, controlled environment, this 16-hour course is designed to provide the rider with knowledge, confidence and 3-wheeled driving skills. Class hours are: Friday evening 6pm-10pm, Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 8am - 3pm.

Trikes and Sidecars are provided for the class, as well as DOT approved helmets. The students must provide their own protective gear, which includes eye protection, full fingered gloves, long sleeves, pants and sturdy, over the ankle protective boots, appropriate for riding.

If the student wants to use their own rig it is encouraged, assuming they have a safe way of transporting it to the range. We have a very limited supply of sidecar combinations and trikes for the Spokane location, so it is strongly recommended that you bring your own with you to class. If you are not able to bring your sidecar or trike, please let us know what type you have when you register. If you bring your own sidecar combination, you must have at least 50 pounds of removable ballast in the sidecar for the first day's riding exercises. (A sandbag, available at your local hardware store, is a good option.) You must also provide proof of liability insurance.

Upon successful completion of the S/TEP course, you will receive a WMSP Course Completion Card. This course satisfies the Department of Licensing's requirements for a license endorsement for a "Type 5 three -wheeled motorcycle only" or a "Type 7 two and three-wheeled motorcycles" if you currently have a Type 3 "two wheeled motorcycles only" endorsement. Some insurance companies are also offering discounted rates with proof of successful completion of this course.
